Eight-year-old Athlone golfing phenomenon Traigh Pathon competed in his first European Kids Golf Championship in Scotland recently, coming in tied with 9th place, an overall of 1 under par for the 3-day tournament and only 6 shots from 1st place.
Turkish Airlines sponsored Traigh and his father / caddie to the Euro Champs in Scotland. Turkish Airlines Cape Town General Manager, Kenan Ince said, “We are delighted by Traigh’s outstanding performance and are proud to have played a role in ensuring he could compete at this prestigious event.”
Traigh hit his first golf ball when he was only 14 months old, he appeared in his first ever television advertisement at 18 months, and he played his first ever round of golf at the tender age of four.
Traigh is the youngest member of the prestigious Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town.
His dad and caddie, David Van Schalkwyk, thanked Turkish Airlines for recognizing Traigh’s potential and making his dreams come true: “I am so proud of my son, he played impressively in the gloomy weather conditions and was the smallest in his age category.”
