The 164th L’Ormarins King’s Plate (LKP) will take place on 4 January 2025 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Race Track, with a significant increase in prize money for the main event.
The Grade 1 race, known as South Africa’s premier weight-for-age mile, now offers R3 million in stakes – 50% more than last year. As the first major race of the Cape Summer Season, the LKP is steeped in history, dating back to 1861 when Queen Victoria presented the original silver plate. Renowned past winners include Jet Master and Pocket Power.
The event, known for its elegance akin to Royal Ascot, features a classic blue-and-white dress code, celebrating racing heritage and sophistication.
